ALBERTUS MAGNUS MOCK TRIAL TEAM
Congratulations to the Mock Trial Team for another successful season of courtroom drama. The team advanced to the Rockland County finals and lost a close competition to Nyack High School.
The competitions are sponsored by the New York State Bar Association and involve teams from high schools throughout Rockland County. The teams argue both sides of a virtual court case through-out the year in Clarkstown Town Court. Local Rockland lawyers and judges act as the judge and preside over the trials. Winners are based on arguments and adherence to rules of evidence established by the State of New York.
The team is coached by social studies teacher, Chris Power and Ken Zemsky, alumnus, P'15. The team consists of seniors Matt Brenner, Sal Florio, Conor Horan, and Katie Sullivan as well as Kristin Burns, Claire Hatala, Jacqueline Hennelly, Hailey Hoffman, Kaitlyn Joong, Shannon Keown, Kevin Leddy, Maureen O'Dowd, Kristin Pelatti, Giselle Rodriguez, Arianna Sotos, Chrystal Thomas, Kiera Townsend, Megan Townsend, and Caroline Zemsky.

AUCTION UPDATE - The 2012 Falcon Parents' Club Dinner & Auction Most Successful Ever! This spring's Parents' Club Dinner & Auction is the largest single fundraiser that the school has ever produced, with over $80,000 netted for the work to rehabilitate our biology lab/classroom. This year's gathering was significantly enhanced by the presence of two all-time great NY Giants Football alumni, Mr. Jim Burt and Mr. O. J. Anderson, both of whom were members of Super Bowl Championship Teams from the 1986 & 1990 seasons.
Mr. Anderson "wowed" the crowd of 320 guests as he took on the role of auctioneer and brought energy and excitement to the Oral Auction segment of the evening's proceedings. His ability to engage with the audience and motivate stronger bids made a real difference for the event's "bottom line". As has become an important tradition, the work of the Auction Committee in all facets of the gathering made this year's celebration another smooth-running affair that truly is a Rockland County "original"! One other major wrinkle to this year's event was the addition of a "Car Raffle" with the Palisades Mazda & Volvo Dealership in West Nyack providing at cost a 2012 Mazda 3 iSport sedan that prompted more dollars and excitement for the Auction. Mr. Dave Reid of Rivervale, NJ was the lucky car winner. Our second large prize award-the Super 50/50 Raffle-gave $9,500 in winnings to Mr. Ed Onderdonk of Stony Point, NY-again, the best showing ever for that exercise!
The effort and support of our newer classes and their families was one other important feature in 2012, as they learned from their older AM Parent "brethren" and provided much-needed labor and capital to the event. Lastly, it should be noted that the Senior Class helpers were a tremendously energetic and committed group of workers. Their vigorous efforts gave this happening a wonderful spirit of hope and real appreciation. Go Falcons!

ROCKLAND SHAKESPEARE COMPANY WOWS THE CROWD AT ALBERTUS MAGNUS - Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 8pm. The players of the Rockland Shakespeare Company wowed the audience last night as they performed Ta Complet Wrks of Wllm Shksper, an abridged version of Shakespeare's works. It is a parody performed by three actors who use improvisation and asides to bring the Bard's works to life. The actors, Christopher Plummer, Patrick Birmingham, and KD Nicholas, first introduced themselves and began a parody of Romeo and Juliet. Next, Titus Andronicus was portrayed as a cooking show. Othello was done as a rap song. During the second act, Hamlet, the audience was asked to participate. Alessandra "Ally" Garcia, who appeared in the school's productions of Bye, Bye Birdie and Hairspray was chosen to go on stage to play Ophelia in the nunnery scene - her only task, to scream. Ally was exceptional and her "scream" could be heard in New York City. The audience gave a standing ovation for this rousing production. The fundraiser's proceeds will benefit the Performing Arts at Albertus. Many thanks to Patty Maloney-Titland, co-founder of the Rockland Shakespeare Company, alumna and parent of freshman, Finn Titland, for bringing William Shakespeare to Albertus Magnus.
