Winter Track Team Bests Last Year's Showing at League Championships
The Winter Track team is on a steady upward swing. Both the girls and boys teams improved markedly in their overall performance at the Class IV B League Championship Meet.
The boys team garnered 35 points overall, up from their 26
point IV B league showing last year. Nate Lecorp competed in the triple jump and placed 3rd
with 38'3.75". Nate's distance of
18'2.5' in the long jump garnered a 6th place medal. Jeremy Sosa placed 4th in the long jump with a
distance of 18'3.75". Jeremy also ran the 55 meter dash and came in 6th
with a time of 7.20. Sean McNiff ran a solid 1:33 in the 600 meter run earning a

3rd in the 4x400 meter, 4th in the 4x800 meter, and 5th
in the 4x200 meter.

Albertus Magnus To Host Spring Track Meet
After many long years Albertus is going to finally host a
track meet! The meet will be on Wednesday, May
11th starting around 4:00PM against Kennedy Catholic.
A lot of work has been put in to make the home site
presentable:
- Tom Festa rebuilt the discus cage
- Coach Ralph and Coach Dave worked hard on the long/triple
jump pit and filled it with new sand.
- Ralph and Dave also re-dug the shot put area, lined
it with boards and are putting down a weed barrier.
- The trees and branches overhanging the track on the
south end have been trimmed
- The pole vault and high jump equipment (which the
FSSC helped purchase) will be in full use
The FSSC bought 2 perpetual trophies and the winning teams
will keep them until the two meet again next year. The winning teams will have
a plaque put on the trophy that evening with their school name and year they
won. Coach Ralph has bought medals and will be presenting them at the end of
the meet. A few parents are going to work the concession stand and have hot
dogs (not exactly health food but easy to cook and eat!) for both teams. Coach
Ralph is promoting the meet at the school and the weather is supposed to be
great!! We are going old school - races will be held in yards since the track
is still 440 yards instead of the standard 400 meters (National
historic site designation pending).
We have officials coming but we could certainly use some
help running the meet - scoring, announcing, measuring shot and disc, etc.
If anyone
can help out it would be greatly appreciated. If you are coming make sure you
wear your Albertus Alumni gear!! (Please contact Albertus magnus athletics office at 623-8842 to offer your assistance.) If we have enough folks you
can sit back (yes there are bleachers now) and enjoy the meet, reminisce the 'glory
days' and get to meet the current Falcon squad. The school will be
hopping as there are both softball and baseball home games vs. TZ. Let me know
if you can make it!!
The May FSSC update will be coming out after the meet -
in the meantime check out the team photo site (password: falcons):
